Oscar nominations (not all) announced for 97th Annual Awards
Most of the nominations for the 97th Annual Academy, or Oscar, Awards were unveiled today by actor-writer-comedians Bowen Yang and Rachel Sennott. (Reason for not announcing all nominees at this time is provided in the fifth paragraph of this news report)
The announcements were made live from the Samuel Goldwyn Theater of the Academy and were broadcast globally via Oscars.org, Oscar.com and digital platforms of the Academy, “Disney+, Hulu, an international satellite feed and broadcast media,” says a press release the Academy distributed to members of the press and which US and Global News also received. The press release was not publicly available online at the time of this writing.
The duo revealed the 97th Oscar nominees in two segments, beginning at 5:30 a.m. PT, with the second set of categories announced at 5:41 a.m. PT. The comprehensive (not yet complete) list of the nominees is typed at the end of this news report.
Academy members, who are divided into 19 branches, voted to select nominees in their respective fields—screenwriters nominated screenwriters, directors nominated directors and so on. In the categories of Live Action Short Film, International Feature Film and Animated Feature Film, members from all branches who opted in participated in the voting process. All voting members are eligible to select the nominees for Best Picture. This year’s ballots were submitted by members from 93 countries.
The Best Picture, Documentary Feature Film and Animated Feature Film categories have movie titles with nominees that have yet to be finalized. According to the rules of the awards, for a producer to qualify as a nominee for a nominated movie, they must have been determined eligible for a Producers Guild of America award for the movie or have successfully appealed against the Guild’s decision on their eligibility. The Academy will announce the remaining nominees by early February.
Voting for the winners in all 23 categories will be open to active Academy members from Tuesday, February 11, through Tuesday, February 18.
The 97th Oscars ceremony is scheduled to take place on Sunday, March 2, 2025, at the Dolby® Theatre at Ovation Hollywood. It will be televised live on ABC, streamed live on Hulu and broadcast to over 200 territories globally.
