‘They Don’t Need…30 Dolls:’ Trump might have accidentally endorsed ‘Gabby’s Dollhouse: The Movie’

In a turn of events that could only happen in 2025, President Donald Trump may have just made an unintentional plug for this fall’s arguably biggest animated family film — DreamWorks’ “Gabby’s Dollhouse: The Movie.” During a recent interview on NBC News’ “Meet the Press,” while defending his steep tariffs on Chinese imports, President Trump shrugged off the impact on toy availability by saying, “They don’t need to have 30 dolls — they can have three.”

Naturally, this presidential hot take had parents talking — and inadvertently drew attention to “Gabby’s Dollhouse,” the multimedia preschool juggernaut known for doing a lot with a little.

In fact, Gabby might just be the poster girl for toy minimalism: one magical dollhouse, infinite adventures.

At the center of “Gabby’s Dollhouse” — a global hit series since its 2021 debut — is one magical dollhouse filled with adorable, animated cat characters known as the Gabby Cats. The series unboxes a surprise before transporting the audience into a fantastical animated world.

Now, the mixed media series leaps to the big screen in its first theatrical release. In the film, Gabby (played by Laila Lockhart Kraner, who reprises her series role) heads out on a road trip with her grandma, Gigi (played by four-time Grammy winner Gloria Estefan), to Cat Francisco, an urban wonderland. But their journey takes an unexpected turn when Gabby’s prized dollhouse ends up in the hands of Vera (Kristen Wiig), an eccentric cat lady. To save the dollhouse and reunite her feline crew, Gabby sets off on an adventure through the real world.

The voice cast includes an impressive mix of comedic talent, with “Saturday Night Live” veterans Ego Nwodim, Kyle Mooney and Melissa Villaseñor, plus Thomas Lennon, Jason Mantzoukas and Fortune Feimster. As with the series, the film blends live-action performances and animated storytelling, bringing its magical universe to life for fans old and new.

“Gabby’s Dollhouse” has become a global sensation with over 100 episodes, a bestselling toy line, original music and millions of weekly views on YouTube. Its core message? Curiosity, creativity and resilience — all packed into one dollhouse that just might be enough for any child (or president) to appreciate.

“Gabby’s Dollhouse: The Movie” in theaters September 26 — and no tariff required.
