‘Gladiator’ sequel hits theaters with strong box office debut
As was expected in the screen entertainment world, the highly anticipated “Gladiator” sequel, “Gladiator II,” stormed into theaters on Friday, achieving an impressive opening day performance. The film secured the second spot at the domestic box office with a gross of $22,000,000 from its release in 3,573 theaters nationwide, resulting in a per theater average gross of $6,157, as of November 24, 2:01 PST, according to Box Office Mojo.
The Los Angeles premiere of “Gladiator II” was held at the iconic TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood on November 18, 2024. The event was graced by an array of stars, including Connie Nielsen, Denzel Washington, Fred Hechinger, Paul Mescal and Peter Mensah. Esteemed director and producer Ridley Scott and producers Douglas Wick, Lucy Fisher and Michael Pruss were also in attendance, adding to the glitz and glamour of the night.
Ahead of its LA premiere, “Gladiator II” made waves at the Royal Film Performance and global premiere held at the Odeon Luxe Leicester Square on November 13, 2024. This significant event was attended by His Majesty King Charles, marking his first premiere as king. The premiere supported the Film and TV Charity, celebrating its 100th year, and was live-streamed to 30 cinemas hosting regional premieres across the UK, garnering widespread attention and acclaim.
The movie, directed by Ridley Scott, continues the epic saga of power, intrigue and vengeance set in Ancient Rome. Years after the death of revered hero Maximus, Lucius (Paul Mescal) is forced into the Colosseum following the conquest of his home by tyrannical emperors. With Rome’s future hanging in the balance, Lucius must find strength and honor from his past to restore the empire’s glory.
The cast of “Gladiator II” includes notable actors such as Pedro Pascal, Joseph Quinn, Lior Raz, Derek Jacobi, Matt Lucas, Alexander Karim, Yuval Gonen, Tim McInnerny and Connie Nielsen, alongside legendary actor Denzel Washington. The film features the collaborative efforts of screenplay and story contributors David Scarpa and Peter Craig, with music composed by Harry Gregson-Williams. Costume designer Janty Yates and director of photography John Mathieson also played pivotal roles in bringing the vision to life.
Produced by Scott Free Productions and a Lucy Fisher/Douglas Wick Production, “Gladiator II” benefits from the expertise of executive producers Walter Parkes, Laurie MacDonald, Raymond Kirk and Aidan Elliott.
