Jordan Peele movie ‘HIM’ unleashes fame-fueled horror this September

Academy Award-winning filmmaker Jordan Peele returns to the big screen this fall with movie “HIM,” a psychological horror drama exploring the perilous pursuit of greatness in the high-stakes world of American football.

Produced by Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions, the film is scheduled to debut exclusively in cinemas on September 19.

The “HIM” movie follows Cameron Cade, a promising young quarterback played by Tyriq Withers (“Atlanta”), whose dreams of going pro are jeopardized following a violent attack by a deranged fan. On the cusp of the NFL scouting Combine, Cameron suffers a traumatic brain injury, threatening to end his career before it begins.

When all hope appears lost, Cameron is unexpectedly taken under the wing of his idol, Isaiah White — portrayed by Marlon Wayans in a dramatic departure from his comedic roots. White, a celebrated quarterback with eight championship titles, invites Cameron to train at his remote estate, where he lives with his influencer wife, Elsie, played by Julia Fox (“Uncut Gems”).

As Cameron immerses himself in Isaiah’s unorthodox training regime, the boundary between mentorship and manipulation begins to blur. What starts as a golden opportunity soon unravels into a harrowing descent into obsession, control and psychological torment.

Directed by Justin Tipping (“Kicks”), the film is based on a screenplay by Zack Akers and Skip Bronkie — known for the sci-fi series “Limetown” — along with contributions from Tipping. The cast also includes MMA fighter Maurice Greene, Australian and American comedian-actor-writer Jim Jefferies, musical artists Guapdad 4000 and Tierra Whack (who make their feature film debuts) and comedian-actor-writer-director-musician Tim Heidecker.

Produced by Ian Cooper, Win Rosenfeld, Jamal M. Watson and Jordan Peele, “HIM” continues Monkeypaw’s tradition of genre-bending horror, following the critical and commercial success of “Get Out,” “Us,” “Candyman” and “Nope.” The film’s executive producers include Kate Oh and David Kern.

Positioned at the intersection of sports ambition and psychological horror, “HIM” examines the toll of celebrity worship and the personal costs behind public greatness.
