Johnny Depp wins verdict against Amber Heard; both issue statements
Actor Johnny Depp has won the verdict of the defamation lawsuit against his ex-wife, actress Amber Heard, in one of the entertainment world’s most followed legal battles.
While the Virginia jury sided with Depp, it also said Heard was defamed by Depp’s lawyer. Benjamin Chew, the lawyer of Depp, called Heard’s abuse allegations a hoax.
The jury also awarded Depp $10+ million in damages. Depp’s legal team sought $50 million.
It took 13 hours for the jury to arrive at a unanimous decision.
“The disappointment I feel today is beyond words,” said Heard in a statement shared on her Twitter profile. “I’m heartbroken that the mountain of evidence still was not enough to stand up to the disproportionate power, influence, and sway of my ex-husband.”
