Horror phenom returns with AI mayhem in ‘M3GAN 2.0’; watch new featurette
Get ready to talk. Universal Pictures and Atomic Monster have set social media ablaze today with their cheeky tease — “humans r gonna talk. so give them something good to talk about 💋” — as they officially unveiled new promotional assets for “M3GAN 2.0,” arriving in theaters June 27.
Fans who thought the murderous android doll was truly dead are in for a shock as the original creative team reunites to crank the terror — and the laughs — up to eleven.
“M3GAN 2.0” is officially categorized as action, horror and comedy.
Universal Pictures announced the release of — and made available to download — the new featurette, clips, B-roll and soundbites for “M3GAN 2.0” in an email to members of the press. As one of those members of the press, US and Global News can vouch that the sneak peeks promise a deeper dive into the film’s upgraded AI carnage — and a few unexpected dance breaks.
The email we also received also contained the following GIF:

Two years after the original M3GAN — an AI doll who became dangerously overprotective of her human companion — was destroyed, we find her creator, Gemma (played by Allison Williams of YouTube series “College Musical” and HBO comedy-drama series “Girls” fame, among others), living a new life as a vocal advocate for AI oversight. Her niece, Cady (played by child actress Violet McGraw of “Thunderbolts,” “M3GAN” and “Black Widow” fame, among others), has blossomed into a rebellious 14-year-old, chafing under Gemma’s protective rules. Meanwhile, the stolen M3GAN tech has been weaponized by a shadowy defense contractor into Amelia (played by Ivanna Sakhno of “Ahsoka” and “Pacific Rim: Uprising” fame, among others), the ultimate infiltration spy whose increasing self-awareness spells disaster for humans, including those giving her orders.
With humanity’s future hanging by a thread, Gemma has only one desperate option: resurrect the original AI doll (performed again by New Zealand-based child actress Amie Donald of “M3GAN” fame, voiced again by actress-YouTuber-singer-songwriter-TikToker Jenna Davis) and retrofit her with cutting-edge upgrades — faster, stronger, deadlier. As M3GAN and Amelia collide, audiences can expect a battle royale of bolts and giggles.
Returning director Gerard Johnstone reassembles the team behind the 2023 sensation — producers James Wan and Jason Blum alongside executive producer Allison Williams — to deliver what promises to be a wild new chapter in action-horror-comedy. The ensemble also features Brian Jordan Alvarez, who is best known for creating and starring in FX comedy series “English Teacher,” and Jen Van Epps (“Don’t Make Me Go” and “Cowboy Bebop”) reprising their roles as tech gurus Cole and Tess, with fresh faces Aristotle Athari (“SNL,” “Hacks”), Timm Sharp (“Percy Jackson and the Olympians”) and Grammy nominee Jemaine Clement (“Avatar: The Way of Water,” “What We Do in the Shadows”).
The original “M3GAN” made a major impact at the box office, opening with $30.4 million in the US — the highest domestic debut for a PG-13 horror film since “A Quiet Place Part II” — and going on to earn more than $180 million globally. Now, with “M3GAN 2.0” set to unleash her next wave of terror, horror fans and curious cinemagoers alike will be lining up for this summer’s most wickedly delightful thrill ride.
