Oscars Eve: Stars host ‘Night Before’ party
The 18th annual “Night Before” party to benefit Motion Picture and Television Fund (MPTF) was hosted on Saturday by a star-studded committee made-up of 2020 Oscars nominees and presenters, along with some of the most powerful industry influencers.
The celebrities hosting the event included Leonardo DiCaprio, Rita Wilson & Tom Hanks, Jennifer Lopez, Amy Adams & Darren Le Gallo, Charlize Theron, Renée Zellweger, Kate Capshaw & Steven Spielberg, Rami Malek, Stella & Sir Anthony Hopkins, Margot Robbie, Antonio Banderas, Laura Dern, Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Pryce, Cynthia Erivo, Joe Pesci, Florence Pugh, Regina King, Octavia Spencer, Tanya Haden Black & Jack Black and Josh Gad.
The annual event last night raised more than $5.4 million, taking the total raised in the event’s history to just more than $90 million.
The funds will be used to support industry people who benefit from MPTF’s charitable programs and services.
MPTF’s charitable programs and services include care giving support, financial assistance, the legendary retirement facility in the Woodland Hills, which is “home” to film and television veterans alike and crisis counseling.
This year, the presenting sponsors included US global airline leader Delta Airlines; Facebook Watch, a place to discover and enjoy video on Facebook; Michigan-based global firm Ford Motor Company; L’Oréal USA, the largest subsidiary of the world’s leading beauty company, L’Oréal Group; Target Corporation, the 8th largest retailer in the US; entertainment industry flagship media brand The Hollywood Reporter; US multinational telecommunications conglomerate Verizon Communications Inc.; video-sharing giant YouTube and US web services provider Yahoo!.
The event was held at Fox Studios. Jon Shook & Vinny Dotolo’s Carmelized Productions provided specialty foods for the guests.
MPTF Board of Governors chairman Jeffrey Katzenberg said in a press release, “MPTF’s Night Before once again brought our industry together in the spirit of a community that truly takes care of its own. We’re incredibly grateful for the generosity of the corporate sponsors and donors from the entertainment community who came out to support and sustain our mission.”
He added, “We look forward to celebrating with them again next year, our organization’s 100th anniversary.”
Since its inception in 2003, the “Night Before,” which is held annually the night before the Oscars, has become one of the most coveted invitations in town.

The 92nd Oscars are going to be handed out tonight at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California. The movie with most nominations at this year’s Oscars is “Joker” (11).
