TV series ‘Trackers’ to debut June 5 on Cinemax

Warner Media has announced that South African crime drama television series “Trackers” will debut Friday, June 5, on American premium cable and satellite television network Cinemax.

Shot entirely in the southernmost country in Africa, it is an adaptation of globally acclaimed writer Deon Meyer’s 2011 novel of the same name. English screenwriter and novelist Robert Thorogood adapted the novel for television. Meyer and Thorogood get the written-by credit for the series.

“Trackers” skillfully link three storylines into a classy full-of-action thriller that covers South Africa’s length and breadth, dynamically colliding in the country’s legislative capital, Cape Town, in a brutal plot that involves black rhinos, smuggled diamonds, organized crime, state security, an international terrorist plot and the CIA.

The show stars James Alexander-Gracie (as Lemmer), Ed Stoppard (as Lucas Becker), Rolanda Marais (as Milla Strachan), Brendon Daniels, Sandi Schultz (as Janina Mentz), Trix Vivier (as Flea van Jaarsveld), Sisanda Henna (as Inkunzi Shabangu) and Thapelo Mokoena (as Quinn Makebe).

Tim Theron, Cobus van den Berg, Jonathan Drake, Deon Meyer and Robert Thorogood serve as executive producers; Steve Maher as executive creative producer and Rebecca Fuller-Campbell as producer of the series.

“Trackers” is directed by Jyri Kähönen, who is known for his work on Finnish crime drama TV series “Bordertown” and drama series “Ihon alla.” Cinematography is by Ivan Strasburg.

The series’ first season, which has six episodes, has been aired by South African pay television channel M-Net. Before the season finale broadcast, M-Net announced that “Trackers” was already their best-performing show of 2019.

It is the first co-production between M-Net, Cinemax, and German public broadcaster ZDF. Three River Fiction and Scene23 also co-produce the show.

Cinemax is the sister network of Home Box Office, Inc., which is a subsidiary of WarnerMedia Entertainment.
