WWE launches ring announcer search on TikTok

World Wrestling Entertainment, Inc. (WWE) has launched a search for its next star ring announcer on video-sharing focused social networking service TikTok. Users of the social media platform can upload videos showcasing their talent as announcer and using the hashtag #WWEAnnouncerContest.

WWE will fly and/or drive (depending on where you live) the best performers to Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on August 21, the day of the company’s biggest event of 2021 – SummerSlam. The best performers will serve as a ring announcer at the mega event.

Pure Life® Purified Water is presenting the announcer search.

The entertainment company will review each video in the weeks leading up to SummerSlam. Two winners will be announced from WWE’s official TikTok channel on August 16.

Superstar wrestler Big E (real name: Ettore Ewen) shared a video on his own TikTok account to explain how the announcer contest works. Here is the video

Besides being a professional wrestler, Big E is an actor and a voice actor. He is also a former football player and a former powerlifter. As a powerlifter, competing in his first USA Powerlifting (USAPL) meet at the 2010 United States Open Championships at Nova Southeastern University in Davie, Florida, he became the top heavyweight lifter, breaking all four Florida state raw powerlifting records in the 275-pound class and besting raw national records in the deadlift and total. Ewen also won the 2011 USAPL Raw Nationals in Scranton, Pennsylvania, competing in the super heavyweight division (275+lbs) and breaking the raw American and national records in the deadlift (799 lbs) and total (2,039 lbs). In the wrestling ring, Big E performs on the SmackDown brand of the World Wrestling Entertainment.

WWE Digital vice president Steve Braband said in a press release, “Our engagement on TikTok to date has been incredible and we couldn’t think of a better platform to help us find the next great ring announcer.”

This is not the only talent search the entertainment company is conducting using TikTok. Via the video sharing service’s Resumes product, the entertainment giant is also trying to discover and hire its next generation of superstars. The search for next big stars via TikTok will culminate in a multi-day talent tryout in Las Vegas as part of SummerSlam.

WWE has one of the largest TikTok audiences in sports with more than 11 million followers.
