AT&T on Cellular Outage: ‘We are experiencing long hold times’

Following reports/complaints by the users on social media that they were unable to make or receive calls, multinational telecommunications holding company the American Telephone and Telegraph Company (AT&T) has put up a message on the Outages page of its website, writing, “Some customers in your area are having trouble making or receiving calls. As a result, we are experiencing long hold times. We apologize for this inconvenience and we are working to resolve this issue.”

While the “in your area” was Atlanta, Georgia in our case, users in California, Massachusetts, Michigan, Indiana, South Carolina, New Jersey, Florida, Nevada, Illinois and other states reported AT&T cellular outage on the company’s online community forums.

Fox29 News traffic anchor Bob Kelly reported on X that the issue seems nationwide.

He posted, “BREAKING…. AT&T Phone Network is DOWN. Cannot make or receive phone calls, texting still works. Seems to be nationwide. Viewer from Alaska said he has no cell service also. Happened Exactly At 4am.”

Some other users also posted on X they were able to text successfully. Several of those that posted on X demanded AT&T to offer credit for the cellular outage.

Business world updates provider Morning Brew posted on X data from real-time problem & outage monitoring service Downdetector, reporting that in addition to AT&T, three more cellular companies, namely Cricket, Verizon and T-Mobile, are also experiencing outages.

US and Global News checked X accounts and websites of the other three companies, but didn’t see any words on the issue at the time of this writing.
