Intel launches Lakefield processors

Intel has launched Core processors with Hybrid Technology, code-named Lakefield.

These processors feature a hybrid CPU architecture for performance and power scalability and leverage Intel’s Foveros 3D packaging technology. They are the smallest to offer Intel Core performance and full Windows compatibility across productivity and content creation experiences for innovative and ultra-light form factors.

“Intel Core processors with Intel Hybrid Technology are the touchstone of Intel’s vision for advancing the PC industry by taking an experience-based approach to designing silicon with a unique combination of architectures and IPs,” said Chris Walker, Intel corporate vice president and general manager of Mobile Client Platforms. “Combined with Intel’s deepened co-engineering with our partners, these processors unlock the potential for innovative device categories of the future.”

In addition to offering full Windows 10 application compatibility in up to a 56% smaller package area for up to 47% smaller board size, Lakefield processors deliver extended battery life. They provide OEMs with more flexibility in form factor design across foldable, single and dual screen devices.

These processors help reduce board size further with their attached package-on-package (PoP) memory. They are also the first Intel Core processors to offer as low as 2.5mW of standby SoC power, which is 91% less compared to Y-series processors, providing more time between charges. Featuring native dual internal pipes, they are ideally suited for dual screen and foldable PCs.

Intel Core i3 and i5 Lakefield processors utilize a 10nm Sunny Cove core to take on more intense workloads and applications running in the foreground. For background tasks, four power-efficient Tremont cores balance performance and power optimization.

Lakefield processors are fully compatible with 32-bit and 64-bit Windows applications.

For AI-enhanced workloads, there is more than 2x throughput on Intel UHD – flexible GPU engine compute allows for sustained, high-throughput inference applications, including AI-enhanced analytics, video stylization and image resolution upscaling.

The processors offer up to 1.7 times better graphics performance as Gen11 graphics delivers seamless content and media creation on the go. These processors will let you convert video clips up to 54% faster and immerse in rich visuals for entertainment and content creation with support for up to four external 4k displays.
