COVID-19 deaths outside of China higher for 2nd straight day

The World Health Organization (WHO) reports in its latest Daily Situation Report on coronavirus disease (COVID-19) that for the second straight day, the number of deaths caused by the virus SARS-CoV-2 outside of China was higher than the number of deaths in China on Tuesday.

China reported 38 new COVID-19 deaths, while outside of the country, 48 people lost their lives.

The total number of deaths in China is now 2984. Outside of China, it is 214.

Four new countries reported COVID-19 cases. They include Chile, Ukraine, Argentina and Poland. So far, 76 countries have reported cases.

Outside of China, the total number of confirmed cases is now 12,668, with 2103 being reported between 10am on Tuesday and 10am on Wednesday (24 hours).

For the same 24-hour period, China reported 120 new confirmed cases. The total number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in China is now 80,422.

Italy was the country with the highest number of COVID-19 deaths in the 24 hours – 28 new deaths. So far, 80 people have lost their lives to COVID-19 in the country. With an increase of 466 new confirmed cases in the 24-hour period, the total number of confirmed cases in Italy is now 2502.

The country with the second highest number of deaths in the 24 hours was Iran, from where 11 new deaths were reported, taking the total number of deaths to 77. In Iran, 835 new confirmed cases in the 24-hour period have taken the total to 2336.

South Korea and the United States reported four new deaths each, with the total in the US increasing to six and in Korea, to 32. With 516 new confirmed cases in Korea, the total number of confirmed cases in the country is now 5328. In the US, the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases is now 108, with 44 of them being new.

France reported one new death, taking the total number of deaths in the country to four. Twenty-one new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the 24-hour period in the country have taken the total to 212.
