Four new countries report COVID-19 cases

Four new countries have reported cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), according to the latest Situation Report of the World Health Organization (WHO).

The four countries are Afghanistan, Bahrain, Iraq and Oman.

The total number of countries that have confirmed cases of COVID-19 is now 33 (excluding China).

From Afghanistan, one case was reported, with the likely place of exposure being outside the country (and outside China).

From Bahrain, eight cases were reported. The likely place of exposure for all eight cases was outside Bahrain (and outside China).

In Iraq, one case was confirmed. The likely place of exposure here is also outside the reporting country (and outside China).

Oman reported two cases, with the likely place of exposure for both being outside the country (and outside China).

Globally, the number of confirmed cases now stands at 80, 239, with 908 of them being confirmed in the last 24 hours.

China reported 518 new confirmed cases in the last 24 hours, with the total number of confirmed cases in the country rising to 77,780.

Outside of China, the 390 new confirmed cases in the last 24 hours have taken the total to 2459.

In China, COVID-19 took 71 more lives in the last 24 hours, taking the number of deaths caused by the outbreak in the country to 2666.

The number of deaths outside China now stands at 34, with 11 of them being in the last 24 hours. South Korea reported three deaths, while Italy and Iran four each.

South Korea reported the most number of confirmed cases in the last 24 hours – 214 followed by Italy – 105. The number of confirmed cases in Korea and Italy now stands at 977 and 229, respectively.

United States reported 18 new confirmed cases. The number of confirmed cases in the US is now 53. The likely place of exposure for 14 of those cases is China. Thirty-six of the US confirmed cases were likely exposed to the virus outside the US and outside China. Two were likely exposed to the virus in the US.
