Novel coronavirus takes 46 more lives, including first outside China

The World Health Organization (WHO) reports in its Novel Coronavirus Situation Report Number 13 that 46 more people have died in the ongoing 2019-nCoV acute respiratory disease outbreak.

All but one new deaths took place in China, where 2,590 new cases of the virus were confirmed in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of confirmed cases in China so far to 14,411.

The number of new severe cases in China is 315, taking the total number to 2,110.

The total number of deaths in China has increased to 304.

Although WHO reports that no new country reported cases of the virus in the last 24 hours, there has been one death outside of China (so far 23 countries have reported the novel coronavirus cases). Outside of China, 14 new confirmed cases have taken the total number of confirmed cases outside of china to 146.

The first death outside of China was reported in the Philippines.

“The patient was a close contact of the first patient confirmed in the Philippines,” says the latest WHO situation report.
