Ukraine imposes sanctions on officials in Georgia amid protests

In a decisive move, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced today that Ukraine has imposed sanctions on Bidzina Ivanishvili and 18 other individuals associated with the government of Georgia. These sanctions target those who, according to Zelensky, are “surrendering Georgia to Putin.”

During his address, Zelensky emphasized the importance of international solidarity in support of the ongoing protests in Georgia.

“This is the very issue that is fueling the protests in Georgia right now,” he stated.

The protests have erupted in response to the Georgian government’s alignment with Russian interests.

Zelensky called on Ukraine’s international partners to take a stand.

“It is crucial that our partners also voice their position now, openly declaring what is happening. And action must be taken,” he urged.

He highlighted the long-term consequences of inaction in international affairs, warning that “if you do not respond in time or fail to respond with principle, then decades are lost, and countries are robbed of their freedom.”

The sanctions, which were enacted through a decree signed by the president of Ukraine, are aimed at those “selling out the interests of Georgia and its people.”

Ivanishvili, a prominent Georgian politician and businessman, along with his accomplices, are accused of undermining Georgia’s sovereignty and aligning with Moscow.

Zelensky’s call to action extended beyond Ukraine’s borders.

“We must not lose anyone in this region – neither Georgia, nor Moldova, nor Ukraine. We must stand united in defending ourselves against Moscow,” he declared.

He urged Europe, America and the global community to act with principle and impose similar sanctions.

The announcement underscores Ukraine’s commitment to supporting democratic movements in the region and resisting Russian influence.

“Glory to Ukraine!” Zelensky concluded, reaffirming his nation’s resolve.
