HBO to host virtual block party for ‘Insecure’ season 4

HBO has announced that it will host the block party for the fourth season of its half-hour comedy-drama series “Insecure” virtually.

The ongoing coronavirus pandemic has put most of the world into lockdown. Globally, events have been canceled, postponed or turned digital.

The US television network hosted block parties for the show’s first three seasons also, with the first season’s party being an intimate daylong gathering in Brooklyn, NY; the second’s taking place in Inglewood, CA and the third one’s being thrown at the Banc of California Stadium in Los Angeles.

Insecure Fest in the Exposition Park neighborhood of LA was attended by 2,500 fans. This year’s online party is expected to engage much more passionate “Insecure” fans.

The four-part virtual block party starts on Sunday, April 12 at 8:30PM EDT (5:30PM PDT). Its lineup will feature a Q&A with show creator and star Issa Rae and the cast on her Instagram Live at 5PM PDT, an Instagram Live DJ set with Zaytoven at 6PM PDT and a live Twitter watch party hosted by Rae at 7PM PDT.

Besides Rae, series regulars include Jay Ellis, Alexander Hodge, Yvonne Orji, Natasha Rothwell, Kendrick Sampson and Amanda Seales.

After the season premiere episode at 7PM, there will be a surprise musical performance on Instagram Live from an artist featured in the upcoming season and on INSECUREⓇ: MUSIC FROM THE HBO ORIGINAL SERIES, SEASON 4 SOUNDTRACK, to be released this summer by Atlantic Records and Rae’s new label, Raedio.

Jackie Gagne, vice president, Multicultural Marketing at HBO, said, “Insecure’s block parties have been a core piece of our marketing campaign and they’ve grown exponentially with each season. Given the current circumstances, we still wanted to bring together a collective virtual community to celebrate the return of a beloved show on HBO with the hope that we could provide an escape from reality to enjoy great music and good laughs.”

“Insecure” season four premieres exclusively on HBO and will be available on HBO On Demand, HBO GO, HBO NOW and partners’ streaming platforms.
