HBO Max releases teaser for ‘That Damn Michael Che’

HBO Max has released the official trailer for its upcoming Original comedy series “That Damn Michael Che” starring stand-up comedian, actor and writer Michael Che. The show will premiere on May 6.

Che is best known for his work on late-night live TV sketch comedy and variety show “Saturday Night Live” (“SNL”). He serves as co-anchor on “SNL’s” news segment, “Weekend Update,” and as the co-head writer.

The subscription video on demand streaming service will release six episodes of the show.

On the show, Che shares his distinctive outlook on delicate subjects, said a media release by WarnerMedia. “That Damn Michael Che” makes use of sketches and vignettes to depict what it feels like when faced with the several day-to-day situations. The “SNL” star will be sharing his perspective on topics like racial profiling, falling in love, unemployment and more.

Che is not alone on the show. His “SNL” buddies will also be with him.

Lending their talents from “SNL” are Heidi Gardner, Cecily Strong, Colin Quinn, Colin Jost and Ellen Cleghorne. Che and Jost were named co-hosts of the 70th Primetime Emmy Awards in 2018.

Geoffrey Owens, Omari Hardwick, Godfrey, Method Man and Billy Porter will be guest starring on “That Damn Michael Che.”

Che is also the executive producer of the show, along with Oz Rodriguez, Erin Doyle and Lorne Michaels.

The stand-up comedian was briefly a correspondent for Jon Stewart on “The Daily Show,” which was hosted by Stewart from 1999 to 2015. Che had been a writer for “SNL” before he co-hosted the news segment for the first time at the end of September 2014, replacing Strong. He co-hosted the segment with Jost for the first time for the 40th season of “SNL.”

Che won the Writers Guild of America Award for Comedy/Variety – Sketch Series in 2017 and then again in 2018, both times for his work on “SNL.”
