Samsung unveils Galaxy S20 5G, Z Flip, Buds+

Samsung has just unveiled the new series of its flagship devices, the Galaxy S20 5G. At its Unpacked 2020 event in San Francisco, California today, the South Korean multinational conglomerate also introduced its new foldable smartphone, the Galaxy Z Flip, and its latest wireless earphones, the Galaxy Buds+.

The S20 5G lineup includes the Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20+ and Galaxy S20 Ultra. There is a limited edition of the Z Flip too, called the Galaxy Z Flip Thom Browne Edition, which Samsung describes as “An Exclusive Smartphone Experience with Sartorial Style.” The Galaxy Buds+ builds on the wireless sound experience by the previous Buds.

The S20 series smartphones come with a brand-new camera architecture, which combines AI and the largest image sensor yet by Samsung.

TM Roh, president and head of Mobile Communications Business at Samsung, said, “As we enter this new decade, 5G will completely change how we communicate and how we experience the world around us. As all three S20 variants come with 5G connectivity, Samsung is providing a next-generation device for transforming people’s lives. With an incredible, AI powered camera, you can capture the moments as they happen and connect more seamlessly with the people you love.”

The S20+ and S20 Ultra are the first devices that can power novel mobile experiences that capitalize on both mmWave and sub-6. The S20 supports sub-62. The series smartphones can deliver non-standalone and standalone 5G capabilities.

The S20 and S20+ come with a 64MP camera. The S20 Ultra, with 108MP!

The larger sensors take in more light, so there is rich image quality even in low light situations. The Ultra variant goes the extra mile and offers the option of dynamically shifting between a high resolution 108MP mode and a 12MP mode by utilizing nona-binning technology, which combines nine pixels into one at the sensor level.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip is engineered with first-of-its-kind foldable glass and features a 6.7-inch display. It is designed with a trendsetting Hideaway Hinge and customized UX.

TM Roh said, “At Samsung, we were encouraged by the excitement for the Galaxy Fold. Galaxy Z Flip is an important next step as we look to build the foldable category by bringing to consumers a new form factor, new display and most importantly, a new kind of mobile experience.”

He added, “With Galaxy Z Flip’s unique foldable design and user experience, we’re redefining what a mobile device can be, and what it enables consumers to do.”

The new foldable smartphone by Samsung features an Infinity Flex Display with Samsung’s proprietary bendable Ultra Thin Glass (UTG). Moreover, the centered in-display camera cutout at the top of the device translates to no notch and no distractions, with the South Korean company’s first-ever 21.9:9 ratio for content such as cinema-ratio 21:9 movies and shows.

The Samsung Galaxy Buds+ are equipped with AKG sound and an innovative two-way speaker system, which comes with an extra tweeter for richer treble and a woofer for powerful bass sounds.

These wireless earphones are fitted with three microphones – one interior and two exterior – for crystal clear voice capture. The outer mics use beamforming to focus on the voice and ignore background noise.

The Buds+ offer eleven hours of music playback, which can be doubled to 22 hours just by placing them in the 270mAh wireless charging case. The quick charging capabilities of these earphones can produce 60 minutes of playback in just three minutes by using wireless, wired or device-to-device charging with Wireless Powershare.
